Forest Rock Castle in Szczytna

Leśna Skała Castle is located in Szczytna, on the Szczytnik mountain. Nowadays, the place can be visited both independently and with a guide. The village of Szczytna is located between the Stołowe Mountains and the Bystrzyckie Mountains. You can get here by car, train or decide to hike, from the direction of Polanica-Zdrój.

The Leśna Skała castle was built in the 19th century, on the model of medieval fortified castles. The building is 7,500 square metres in size. The castle was built between 1831 and 1837, and was located at 589 metres above sea level. The construction of the castle was connected with the establishment of the residence of count Leopold von Hochberg, which was located near the fort on Szczytnik created by the Prussians. The Leśna Skała castle was supposed to serve as a knight’s and hunting castle.

Over the following years, the castle changed its owners. However, its interiors have preserved original details dating back to the 19th century. During the Second World War, it served as a luxurious Wehrmacht rehabilitation centre, and later housed the headquarters of the soviet army. In the mid-20th century, it became a Nursing Home.

Since 2020, the castle has been open to tourists. Inside you will find portals or window frames made in the neo-gothic style. There is a knights’ hall in the castle, as well as the chapel of Our Lady Queen of Peace (Matka Boska Królowa Pokoju). What’s more, there is also a terrace offering picturesque views. The castle hosts various events, such as Valentine’s Day or Grandma and Grandpa’s Day.
