The open-air museum in Pstrążna is located in Kudowa-Zdrój, in the area of a picturesque village. The open-air museum was established in 1984 as a branch of the Regional Museum in Wałbrzych. However, since 2006 it has been an independent cultural institution.
The open-air museum includes historic wooden buildings which are an example of folk architecture of the sudetic foothills. Their interiors contain old furniture and equipment dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. What is more, the objects have been described, thanks to which visitors can learn more about their purpose. The complex also includes a wooden windmill, from which visitors can take a look at the picturesque village.
The historic buildings will allow us to travel back in time. Built in 1856, the residential and farm building with a forge and shop is the blacksmith’s workplace, where we will walk through the forge, antechamber, cowshed, kitchen and hall with a fireplace. The inn, built at the beginning of the 19th century, is a building where former travellers enjoyed accommodation and a meal. Moreover, the complex also includes the residential buildings of the time, Baba Yaga’s Herb Garden, which enables visitors to learn about dangerous plants, an alarm bell tower to warn of danger and a windmill.
Various workshops and educational lessons are organised on site. Here you can taste traditional bread and learn the folk way of painting. The open-air museum in Pstrążna is a place that will interest both younger and older travellers.
