Polanica Zdrój

Polanica-Zdrój is a spa town located at the foot of the Piekielna Góra mountain, between Kłodzko and Duszniki-Zdrój. The specific microclimate that exists here, makes it an ideal place for patients.

 

The first records of the town come from 1347. A significant event in the history of Polanica-Zdrój was the takeover of the area by W. Hoffmann – an industrialist from Wrocław. It was then that the popularity of the town increased significantly. A park, a new pump room and a spa house were created.

 

In Polanica-Zdrój there is the Spa Park (Park Zdrojowy), established in 1906. Spa Park with an area of almost 13 ha. In spring and summer, a variety of flower species can be seen here, as well as fountains.

 

Between 1911 and 1913, the Helena Baths (Łazienki Heleny), a pump room, was built. The building was created in a classicist style. The Wielka Pieniawa Pump Room (Pijalnia Wielka Pieniawa) is one of the town’s biggest attractions. The water, extracted from a depth of 34 m, has a beneficial effect on the digestive tract and supports the immune system. The Mineral Water Pump Room is most beautifully presented from the side of the Spa Park. Next to the Pump Room is the Spa Theatre (Teatr Zdrojowy), which dates back to 1925, and the New Spa House called Wielka Pieniawa.

 

An attraction worth visiting is the Chess Park (Park Szachowy), which is part of the Spa Park. It is here that you will see a large chessboard and chess figures 1.4 m high.

 

The youngest travellers will certainly be pleased to be informed about the tourist small train that travels around Polanica-Zdrój. The train is called the Polanica Express. The route starts in the Chess Park.

 

While in Polanica-Zdrój, you can also go for a walk to the Wielbłądek Rock. What is more, you can also use the Góralka viewing platform, which offers a nice view of the town.
