Prague

A city which invariably enchants – with its atmosphere, architecture and monuments. Although Prague is rich in attractions, it is worth coming here at least for a weekend to see the most important places, taste the local cuisine and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the czech capital.

One of the most important and definitely worth a visit is Hradčany. Here you will find Prague’s beautiful castle, the impressive and monumental St Vitus Cathedral and the charming Golden Lane with its very low houses, where, among others, the writer Franz Kafka once lived.

It is also definitely worth a trip to Vyšehrad, which is a little away from the city centre. Here you will find numerous architectural treasures, such as the romanesque rotunda of St. Martin dating from the 11th century, the neo-gothic church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the underground casemates housing the original baroque sculptures from the Charles Bridge or the gothic cellars housing the historical museum. However, it is worth coming here if only for the exceptionally beautiful view of Prague and the Vltava River.

On the Old Town Square in Prague, you will find extremely interesting architecture and many monuments. Among the most famous is certainly the Old Town Hall with its unique Orloj clock, in which figures of the 12 apostles appear every hour. From the very top of the Town Hall there is a wonderful view of the city. The Old Town Square also features the gothic church of the Virgin Mary with the oldest organ in Prague, as well as the baroque church of St. Nicholas with its 18th-century frescoes.

Not far from the Old Town Square we will find the jewish quarter Josefov. Here you will find the Maisel Synagogue, the Jewish Town Hall and Europe’s oldest, still functioning, jewish temple – the Staron Synagogue. According to legend, it was built by refugees from Jerusalem after the Jerusalem Temple was destroyed and its fragments brought to Prague by angels.

When in Prague, don’t miss the Charles Bridge, one of the most famous stone bridges in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its construction began in 1357 and the bridge features gothic towers and statues of saints. In former times, the coronations of czech kings took place here.

Prague, however, is not only about monuments, but also numerous cultural events, and in winter, one of the most beautiful in Europe, the Christmas market.
