Adrspach-Teplice Rock Town in Czech Republic

The Adršpach-Teplice rocks constitute the largest rock city with the wildest character in Central Europe. This unusual and unique stone labyrinth was created by the forces of nature. In addition to the fancifully shaped rocks, you will also see many interesting plant and animal species.

On the tourist route through the Rock Town, there are many beautiful rocks, sparking the imagination of children and adults alike. We can take a closer look at the Sphinx, the Sugar Head, the Lovers, the Polar Bear, the Temple, the Camel or the Chapel. The Gothic Gate, which was erected in 1839, is also a characteristic point of the Rock Town. There is also the charming and at the same time romantic Pískovna Crystal Lake, which is the remnant of a former sand mine, as well as the Great Waterfall falling into the gorge from a height of 16 m, which in winter turns into an equally enchanting tongue of frozen water. The Rock Town also offers beautiful mountain panoramas. It is from numerous lookout points that you can admire the most beautiful rock formations. One of the most noteworthy is the viewpoint on the Old Castle Hill, which offers a perfect view of the entire Rock Town.

In the Middle Ages, the rocks provided shelter for the local inhabitants. However, it was only in the 18th and 19th century that a great interest in the Rock Town emerged. This was mainly connected with the development of tourism. What is more, the fancifully shaped terrain was a source of inspiration for the poets and artists of the time. In 1824, a huge fire broke out in Teplice Rocks, which made it easier to reach the most inaccessible parts. This made the place even more popular. In the 20th century, hiking trails were marked out and adequate tourist infrastructure was provided. Nowadays, the Rock Town can be visited all year round.
